Two Frigidaire water filters get mixed up more than any others we sell: the newer FPPWFU01 (PurePour PWF-1) and the older ULTRAWF. They come from different Frigidaire filtration generations, they are shaped for different housings, and they are not interchangeable — a PWF-1 will not fit a fridge built for ULTRAWF, and the reverse is also true. Ordering the wrong one costs you a return and another few days of old-filter water, so here is how to tell which one is actually in your fridge before you buy.

The short answer

  • Read the label on the cartridge you already have. That label — not the fridge’s age, colour, or where you bought it — decides the filter.
  • If it says FPPWFU01, PWF-1, PurePour PWF-1, EPPWFU01 or PWF-1-U, you need the FPPWFU01.
  • If it says ULTRAWF (the older PureSource Ultra system), you need an ULTRAWF-type filter. The PWF-1 will not fit.
  • When in doubt, pull the old cartridge out first and match the printed part number exactly, letter for letter.

Which fridge series point to the PWF-1?

Per the FPPWFU01 product’s own compatibility list, the PWF-1 fits Frigidaire and Electrolux models in series including FRFS2823, GRFS2853, GRFC2353, PRFC2383, PRFG2383, FRSS2323, FRSS2623, GRSS2352 and GRSS2652. If your model number starts with one of those series and your old cartridge is labelled PWF-1 / FPPWFU01, you have the right match.

Do not guess from the series alone, though. Frigidaire has used several filtration systems across similar-looking fridges, which is exactly why the cartridge label is the final word.

A 30-second check before you order

  1. Open the filter housing and push-release the old cartridge (on a PWF-1 fridge it pushes to release, then slides straight out).
  2. Read the part number printed on the cartridge itself.
  3. Match it exactly: FPPWFU01 / PWF-1 on one side of this comparison, ULTRAWF on the other. Similar-looking names — WF3CB, EPTWFU01 and others — are different filters again, so do not round a label up or down to the nearest name.
  4. Still unsure? Contact us with the label and your fridge model number before ordering — an unopened wrong filter is covered by our 30-day free returns, but checking first is faster for everyone.

If yours is the PWF-1

The change itself takes about two minutes: push to release the old cartridge, slide the new one in until it clicks, flush about 1.5 gallons (3–4 minutes) at the dispenser, and hold the Water Filter reset button for 3 seconds until the display turns from red to green. FAQ

Can I use a PWF-1 in place of an ULTRAWF? No. They belong to different Frigidaire filtration generations and fit different housings. Match the part number on your old cartridge.

My fridge is old — does that mean it takes ULTRAWF? Not necessarily. Age is a clue, not proof. The label on the installed cartridge is the reliable check, backed up by your fridge model number.

Is FPPWFU01 the same as PurePour PWF-1? Yes. FPPWFU01 is the Frigidaire part number; PurePour PWF-1 is the cartridge family name. EPPWFU01 and PWF-1-U refer to the same filter.

How often do I change the FPPWFU01? Every 3 to 6 months, per its product specification (rated capacity 125 gallons).

What if I ordered the wrong one? Unopened filters are covered by our 30-day free returns policy with a prepaid label. Contact us and we will point you to the filter your label actually calls for.
