EDR3RXD1 vs EDR4RXD1: Which EveryDrop Filter Does Your Fridge Actually Need?
EDR3RXD1 vs EDR4RXD1 is one of the most common points of confusion for Whirlpool-family fridge owners — the two cartridges look similar, both are made for the same group of brands, and buying the wrong one means a filter that simply will not fit. This guide settles it in about two minutes: check the table, check your old filter, order the right one.
The short answer
- Your fridge takes EDR3RXD1 (Filter 3) if the filter sits in the base grille at the bottom of the fridge and comes out with a push-button release. It replaces old part numbers 4396841, 4396710 and W10193691 (Kenmore 46-9083).
- Your fridge takes EDR4RXD1 (Filter 4) if the filter sits inside the fridge, in the upper-right corner, and comes out with a quarter-turn twist. It replaces UKF8001, UKF8001AXX and 4396395 (Kenmore 46-9006).
They are not interchangeable. A Filter 3 will not lock into a Filter 4 housing, and the other way around.

How to be 100% sure before you order
- Read the label on your old filter. The surest check: pull the old cartridge out and read the number printed on it. If it says 4396841, 4396710 or EDR3, you need Filter 3. If it says UKF8001 or EDR4, you need Filter 4.
- Check where the filter lives. Bottom grille = Filter 3. Top-right inside the fridge = Filter 4. This alone settles most cases.
- Check the release style. Push a button and the filter pops out = Filter 3. Grip, twist a quarter turn, pull = Filter 4.
If your old filter has none of these numbers, check your fridge manual or the model plate inside the fridge wall, and match it against the compatibility list on the product page — or contact us and we will confirm it for you before you buy.
What happens if you order the wrong one?
Nothing dramatic — the cartridge simply will not seat or lock, so do not force it. Forcing a wrong cartridge can damage the housing and cause leaks. If you ordered from us, our 30-day free returns policy covers you: contact us, we will send a prepaid return label, and you can order the correct filter.
The price difference that actually matters
Both genuine filters carry a $59.99 list price at the official brand store, and even their subscribe-and-save price is $48. At Discounted Filter Store the same genuine OEM filters are $39.99 for a single filter, with free US shipping on every order and no subscription. A 2-pack covers a full year (each filter lasts about 6 months), which brings the cost per year down further — with no commitment and nothing to cancel.

FAQ
Can I use EDR4RXD1 instead of UKF8001?
Yes. EDR4RXD1 is the current EveryDrop name for the filter formerly sold as UKF8001 / UKF8001AXX. Same fit, same housing.
My old filter says 4396841. Is that Filter 3 or Filter 4?
Filter 3. Order the EDR3RXD1.
How often do I change it?
Every 6 months, or after about 200 gallons — whichever comes first. Slow water flow and a returning chlorine taste are the usual signs it is overdue.
Are these genuine filters?
Yes — we sell genuine OEM EveryDrop filters, NSF certified, not aftermarket compatibles.
