The Frigidaire FPPWFU01 — sold as the PurePour PWF-1 — is a push-to-lock filter: no twisting, no tools, and the whole change takes about two minutes. This guide follows the exact steps from the product’s own instructions: removing the old cartridge, clicking the new one in, flushing the system, and resetting the water filter reminder so the red light does not stay on for the next six months.

Before you start

  • Your new filter: genuine Frigidaire FPPWFU01 / PurePour PWF-1. The same cartridge is also listed under EPPWFU01, PWF-1, PWF-1-U, FPPTWFU01 and HDFPPWFU01.
  • Compatible series include: Frigidaire and Electrolux models in the FRFS2823, GRFS2853, GRFC2353, PRFC2383, PRFG2383, FRSS2323, FRSS2623, GRSS2352 and GRSS2652 series. If your old cartridge says ULTRAWF instead, you need a different filter — the PWF-1 will not fit.
  • Specifications that matter: NSF/ANSI Standards 42 and 53 certified, 0.5 micron rating, rated capacity 125 gallons, change every 3 to 6 months.
  • Time: about 2 minutes, plus 3–4 minutes of flushing.
  • You do not need to turn off the water supply. Have a towel ready for small drips.

Step 1: Turn off the ice maker

Switch the ice maker off before you start, so it does not try to draw water while the filter is out.

Step 2: Push to release the old filter

Push firmly on the end/face of the old cartridge until it releases from the housing.

Step 3: Slide the old cartridge out

Pull the old water filter cartridge straight out of the housing and discard it.

Step 4: Slide the new filter in

Unpackage the new FPPWFU01. Using the alignment guide, slide it gently into the filter housing until it stops against the snap-in connector.

Step 5: Push until it clicks

Push firmly until the cartridge snaps into place — you will hear a distinct “click” as it engages. No click usually means it is not fully seated, which is the most common cause of slow flow or a leak after a change.

Step 6: Flush the system

Press a drinking glass against the water dispenser for about 3–4 minutes (approximately 1.5 gallons) to flush the system and purge trapped air. Sputtering and air spurts during flushing are completely normal — that is air leaving the line.

Step 7: Turn the ice maker back on

Switch the ice maker on. Discard the first batch of ice it makes.

Step 8: Reset the water filter reminder

Press and hold the Water Filter reset button on the control panel for 3 seconds. The status display will change from red to green. Skip this step and the fridge will keep showing the old filter as expired, even though the new one is in.

Troubleshooting

  • No click when installing: remove the cartridge, check the alignment guide, and push firmly until it snaps in.
  • Sputtering at the dispenser after the change: trapped air — keep flushing; it clears within the 1.5-gallon flush.
  • Reminder light still red: hold the Water Filter reset button for a full 3 seconds until the display turns green.
  • Slow flow that does not improve after flushing: re-seat the cartridge (push-release, slide out, slide back in to a click). If it persists and the filter is near 6 months old, it is due for replacement.

When to change it next
