EveryDrop Filter A (EDRARXD1) Explained: Which Fridges Use Filter A?
Most EveryDrop filters are numbered — Filter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Then there is the odd one out: Filter A, model EDRARXD1. Owners whose fridges take it often do not realise it exists until the filter light comes on and the cartridge they pull out does not match any of the numbered filters they see in shops. This post explains what Filter A is, which fridges use it, and how not to order the wrong cartridge.
The short answer
- Filter A = EDRARXD1. If the label on your old cartridge says “Filter A” or “EDRARXD1”, this is the only EveryDrop cartridge that fits your fridge.
- It is a genuine OEM EveryDrop cartridge for select Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir refrigerators.
- It is not interchangeable with Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) or Filter 5 (EDR5RXD1) — similar family, different cartridge. A numbered filter will not lock into a Filter A housing.
- Filter life is about 6 months or 200–250 gallons, and it installs with a simple twist-and-lock fitting — no tools.

Which fridges use Filter A?
Filter A is fitted to select models across the Whirlpool family of brands (Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana, JennAir). There is no safe shortcut by brand or by fridge style alone — two fridges from the same brand in the same year can take different filters. The reliable checks, in order:
- Read your old cartridge. Pull it out (twist to release) and read the label. “Filter A” or “EDRARXD1” settles it completely.
- Check the fridge manual or the model plate inside the fridge wall and match the filter number it specifies.
- Ask before you order. Send us your fridge model number and we will confirm compatibility before you pay — that is faster than a return.
Filter A vs the numbered filters — why people order wrong
The confusion is understandable: Filter A sits in the same EveryDrop range, at the same $39.99 price point, and listings for the numbered filters dominate search results. The three mistakes we see most:
- Ordering Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) because “A” looks like the first in the series. It is a different cartridge and will not fit.
- Ordering Filter 5 (EDR5RXD1) because a product description mentioned it near Filter A content. Also a different cartridge.
- Assuming a “universal” compatible will adapt. Housings are model-specific; a cartridge that does not lock and seal properly can leak or filter nothing at all.
If you ordered the wrong one from us, do not force it — our 30-day free returns policy covers unopened filters with a prepaid label.
When to change Filter A
Every 6 months or about 200–250 gallons, whichever comes first. The usual signs it is overdue: water flow slows at the dispenser, chlorine taste and odor creep back, and ice quality drops. Write the change month on a piece of tape on the cartridge when you install it, and set a phone reminder — a 2-pack covers a full year and means the next change is already in the cupboard.
The price, honestly
A genuine EveryDrop single filter lists at $59.99 at the official brand store, and their subscription price is $48. The same genuine Filter A is $39.99 here, one-time, with free US shipping on every order and no subscription — and multi-packs bring the per-filter price down further.

FAQ
Is Filter A the same as Filter 1? No. Filter A (EDRARXD1) and Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) are different cartridges for different housings. They are not interchangeable.
How do I know my fridge takes Filter A? Read the label on your old cartridge — “Filter A” or “EDRARXD1” is the definitive check. Your fridge manual’s filter specification says the same.
How long does Filter A last? About 6 months or 200–250 gallons, whichever comes first.
How do I change it? Twist the old cartridge to release it, twist the new one in until it locks, flush the dispenser for a few minutes, discard the first batch of ice, and reset the filter indicator.
Is the EDRARXD1 you sell genuine? Yes — genuine OEM EveryDrop, NSF certified, not an aftermarket compatible.
